The Bel Air Police Department provides law enforcement services and safeguards civil rights. It operates a criminal investigation division that supplements patrol officers, arrests criminals and recovers stolen property. The department s patrol duties include the prevention and detection of crime, protection of lives and property, apprehension of offenders and enforcement of traffic laws. The Bel Air Police Department conducts neighborhood watch, home checks and Explorer Post programs. It supports the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E) program, which focuses on the prevention of illegal usage of drugs, gang activities and violent behavior. The department employs more than 40 sworn and nonsworn officers. The Bel Air Police Department is located in Bel Air, Md.
