General Info
Our Background - The Charles C. Woods & Son Tradition Joseph Woods learned the art of piano tuning from his father Charles in Pennsylvania. In 1865 after the Civil War he mustered out of the Union Army and was awarded a homestead in Longmont, Colorado. He sent for his father and they opened a father and son piano tuning and repair business. In 1895, Joseph and his son Leo opened the Woods & Son piano store in Ft. Collins. Around this time, another son, Carlton, moved to Denver and went to work for the Knight Campbell Music Co. He was invited to the Steinway factory in New York for a two-year training program. He then returned to the Denver area as a factory trained teinway technician. Carlton ran the business until 1945, handing it over to his son Charles II. While Charles is still active in the business, he passed leadership of the company to his son Joseph II in 1980. Joseph continues rebuilding, buying and selling Steinway and other fine grand pianos. The company has since expanded to new piano sales including the renowned Bluthner, Seiler, Mason-Hamlin, Petrof and August Förster lines.
