- Medical Weight LossRegardless of the cause of arthritis, physical therapy plays a major role in the treatment of its symptoms. Your physical therapist will conduct a physical evaluation to analyze your joint movement, muscle strength, and overall function, in order to pinpoint the exact areas that are causing you pain. You will then be prescribed a personalized treatment plan, focused around your specific needs. Treatment plans will include targeted stretches and exercises aimed at relieving your pain and improving your function, in addition to any specialized methods your physical therapist deems fit. This may include manual therapy, ice and heat therapies, electrical stimulation, or ultrasound. Your physical therapist may also include additional services as needed, such as weight management techniques to help ease some stress on your joints, and/or posture improvement to relieve stiffness and prevent injury.
- Stroke RehabilitationStroke is a leading cause of disability in adults. Your physical therapist is part of the stroke rehabilitation team and will develop an individualized plan for the best outcome. Your physical therapist can help you improve walking and balance, train you on how to use assistive devices and provide training for your caregivers. The goal of your physical therapist is to help you regain functional skills after a stroke, so you can get back to your life.
- Primary CarePhysical therapy can effectively reduce or eliminate pain in your elbows, wrists, and hands. It can even help you avoid surgery. According to the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), manual physical therapy may even work better than surgery for conditions such as carpal tunnel. Often a physical therapist will work in conjunction with your primary care doctor to identify the root cause of your pain. A physical therapist will evaluate your condition which can include assessing your flexibility and strength. After a complete evaluation has been made a physical therapist will put together an individualized program to treat your pain. Exercise and stretching may be included to improve your strength and increase range of motion. A physical therapist may also use heat and ice therapy, massage treatment, or electrical stimulation.
- CataractsWhile medication is easy, it only helps your pain subside for a short amount of time. Over time, certain drugs can cause some unfavorable side effects, and in some cases, they can be habit-forming. With NSAIDs, you run the risk of blood clots, heart attack, or stroke. With corticosteroids, you run the risk of cataracts, high blood sugar levels, and bone loss. Luckily, there is a much safer and healthier alternative to treating persistent back pain: physical therapy. At your initial consultation, your physical therapist will ask you several questions regarding your medical history, lifestyle, and painful area(s). This information will assist your physical therapist in creating the best treatment plan for you and your specific needs, so you can be provided with long-term results.
- Carpal Tunnel SyndromeCarpal tunnel – This condition occurs in the wrist where tendons and a primary nerve run along the forearm to the hand. There is extensive pressure on the median nerve that causes pain in your hand. Symptoms can include numbness, burning, and pain throughout the hand. There may be a pain in the wrist that extends to the elbow. You might experience a weakened grip and have problems lifting items. The hand may also become swollen.
- Multiple SclerosisMultiple Sclerosis (MS) is a neurological disease that causes the body’s immune system to abnormally attack the covering of the nerve cells, called myelin. This causes scarring and decreases the nerve’s ability to transmit signals properly. The progression of MS is based on 4 different types of aggressiveness. Multiple sclerosis is categorized by bouts of activity, with periods of minimal to no activity, depending on the different types of MS you may be suffering from. Symptoms can vary from person to person dramatically as different parts of the brain, spinal cord or peripheral nerves are affected, making no two cases alike.

- SciaticaI went to Laura at the start of the new year with painful bursitis and sciatica that had been exacerbated by my new work from home situation and too much sitting and standing for long periods. I saw Laura for about two months, 2 days each week. My sessions, combined with a lot of personal work (more movement during the day, nightly strengthening and stretching exercises), have markedly improved my comfort level, and completely eliminated the pain I was experiencing at our first session.
- WhiplashIf you work in an environment where you are required to operate a company vehicle, you are at risk of becoming injured in an auto accident. Work-related car accidents can result in a number of different injuries ranging from minor scrapes and bruises to whiplash, broken bones and internal injuries as well. Physical therapy can help to relieve pain caused by whiplash or other muscle and joint strain, with targeted manual manipulations that are designed to reduce inflammation and restore range of motion.

Your physical therapist focuses on improving range of motion, strength, stamina, safety with transfers from low surfaces, posture, and movement in patients with Parkinson’s.
- Frozen ShoulderFrozen shoulder – Frozen shoulder is characterized by a painful loss of shoulder motion as well as a tightening of the shoulder joint that severely restricts motion. Adhesive capsulitis is another name for it. If your arm has been in a cast or sling for a long time, or if you have been bedridden for a while, this condition can develop. Some ethnicities are more predisposed, and women from 40-60 years of age tend to have more instances of this condition than men.
