- The Chicago Lighthouse for the Blind, a nonprofit agency, provides educational, clinical and vocational programs for blind, visually impaired and multidisabled individuals. The agency s development center provides classes in social interaction, physical therapy and personal hygiene. It also has a program for youth offering jobs in administration and janitorial services to adolescents with disabilities. Its manufacturing facility recruits more than 40 blind and visually impaired individuals that produce various products, such as clocks, planners, and wall thermometers and calendars and for the marketplace. The Chicago Lighthouse offers vocational training and employment service programs, including academic skills and job-readiness training sessions. It also provides placement counselors that assist individuals with resume presentation, interview skills, and punctuality and workplace etiquette. The agency is located in Chicago, and was founded in 1906.
