General Info
As a teacher I have very strong credentials. I have received my education at two of the best conservatories in the United States. I received my bachelor degree at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore and my masters are the Eastman School of Music. I like to be direct and to the point with a student, but I also like to be caring and encouraging. I like to set clear rules for my studio in terms of class policies, and I do encourage the participation of parents--such as being present in lessons. This, however, is not a requirement. I like to give also students the opportunity to perform, and I would search to rent a place where they would play. I also enjoy working on the basics, as I believe in a good foundation that will help the students to advance in their studies. My teaching methods include the use of Suzuki books as well as more tradional methods (such as Sevcick and Schradieck, Kreutzer and Wohlfahrt etudes, etc). As I mentioned, I am a Russian School-trained violinist, but I also know the Suzuki method, and other Western, pedagogical practices, as I have lived in the United States for 18 years. I like to teach all ages and levels. Having gone through solo competitions and through learning orchestra excerpts, I feel I can help students with their technique as I know the requirements of a professional, performing, music career. I also know how to work with beginners, having gone through various pedagogical workshops and having taught young students during my time in Baltimore and Rochester.I also have a special affinity for musical education as I come from a family of music educators--my mother is a teacher of theory and piano. She graduated with a bachelor degree in both from the Moscow Conservatory College, and taught for many years in Russia and the United States. In terms of my pedagogy experience, I have participated in two workshops for teachers. One was the graduate pedagogy course at the Peabody Conservatory. Here I had to assist the Peabody Preparatory teachers in teaching their students. I had to develop a curriculum, and I had to learn about various methods in teaching beginners. I also had to take psychology class designed for music teachers. Also, we covered various etudestudy books like the early Suzuki volumes, Schradieck, Sevcick, etc.I have also attended a workshop for teachers at the Eastman School. There we also had to assist the Eastman Community Music School teachers with their students, and we had to develop a curriculum and make video samples of our teaching. Aside from this, I was also a part-time teacher in the Baltimore area for 3 years, while doing my undergrad at the Peabody Conservatory. As a performer, I have deep credentials. I have won and participated in numerous competitions. For example, I have won the American Protege, AFAF Golden Strings, Peabody Preparatory Concerto, and MTNA Competitions.
