I started going to this place in the late 90s. They have not disappointed me in over 20 years. The potato is the shit, but the items on the menu are good as well. They must be good because I drive from western side of Redford to get that potato

I have purchased the potatoes for many years and have always been satisfied, today I choose the shrimp potato only to find that the shrimp were not deveined when calling to express my displeasure I received the run around. this is an item i will NEVER purchase again until they use deveined shrimp. Or try Fat Boyz or Spudheads. Potato place get it together you do have competition!

Hi Miss Shirley, I wanted to apologize and let you know ever since you called we have made sure that the shrimp is deveined and tail off. The batch that was brought in that day was not the kind that we always order. I'm sorry you had this issue that day and I assure you that it is deveined. Hope to see you soon :) And when you come in ask for Deedee, I will take care of you.

DETAILS

Potatoes as Big as your Head

General Info
Tucked into a little plaza across the street from Wayne State’s campus, the dino-sized spuds at The Potato Place are like prehistoric boulders of starchy taters heaped with an impressive selection of meats, vegetables, and cheeses. They do baked potatoes extraordinarily well here. Available for dine-in or carry-out, the potatoes themselves are massive. These 18-20 oz. monsters are almost as big as your head. Compare that with a normal medium-to-large potato which averages between 6-10 ounces. Your potato is first topped with a choice of garlic butter or plain butter, then loaded with the toppings of your choice. We absolutely love the broccoli and cheese spud (we like it with shredded cheddar but you can also opt for shredded mozzarella or creamy cheddar). You can’t go wrong with the chili and cheese potato. Comforting and flavorful, it’s the perfect winter lunch. A potato topped with thinly sliced steak, cheese, and mushrooms makes for a hearty lunch, and the protein-rich toppings help balance out the carbs. The Greek spud is an ingenious concoction, topped with gyro strips, crumbled Feta cheese, onions and tomatoes. The possibilities seem endless: corned beef, bacon, shrimp, turkey, ham, and tuna. Whatever you’re craving, you’re sure to find it among the list of toppings at the Potato Place. Most spuds will run you about $8 and are definitely enough for a meal. They heat up pretty well the next day if you have leftovers, just remember to take them out of the styrofoam container before microwaving. You can call ahead for your to-go order when you’re short on lunch time. If you’re not in the mood for a potato, you can substitute wide egg noodles on any of the combos. The noodles work particularly well with the pizza spud (pizza sauce, pepperoni, and cheese) as well as with grilled chicken and cheese. Although loaded baked potatoes are definitely the specialty here, you’ll also find hot dogs, subs, deli style sandwiches, salads, and soups on the menu. Satisfy your sweet tooth with an ice cream cone, fruit slushie, or baked good. With its colossal spuds and splendid assortment of toppings, The Potato Place offers a satisfying, affordable lunch that will never leave you hungry. -Kat Rembacki
