Really terrible experience. I bought a bunch of Emerald Green Arborvitaes from them and found they're completely useless to me (he was just emptying his stock). I originally went to them wanting Leyland Cypress trees, but they guaranteed me that their 'in stock' Emerald Green Arborvitaes would be much better for me. They promised they would easy grow around 25 feet tall and the brown limbs I saw would grow back if I found any upon delivery. I contacted them about my concern, and even contacted the Better business Bureau, and they don't care about what they've done. Now I'm stuck with over $2,000 worth of trees that don't even do anything for me except take up space in my lawn (they'll never grow enough to provide privacy screening like I had requested). Also, some of them are already dieing because Kelly gave them to me with bad condition ball roots.. and I called many other Tree Nurseries and they ALL have told me that these trees only grow 12-15 feet tall, and brown limbs typically do not grow back on these trees... they're not going to even look any better when they finish growing. Yet Kelly, acting like a sociopath, still believes his lies re-assuring that these trees quote on quote "Could easily grow 20-30 feet tall, even more. And an agreement for a tree growing at least a certain height is a joke." Really tells a lot about this person's and business's integrity. Be careful, I put my trust in him one time and for sure I would never do it again. I wasn't the only witness to this either.

I would stay away from this nursery!!! Go to Wentworth’s, Patuxent or some of the other locals.



My personal opinion of Kelly McConkey is not very good when it comes to his business practices. I purchased a tree from his nursery and paid for him to install it. It died within 5-6 months. “No problem I thought,” I will just let him know so he could come out and replace it. I went back to the nursery and talked to Kelly directly. He immediately told me “no problem” and that he would “take care of it” (this is the response that I expected). He stated that he did not have any of the particular tree that I purchased in stock but should have some within a week. After two weeks went by and I did not hear anything from him, I paid the nursery a another visit to inquire on the status of the replacement tree. Kelly was not there so I left my contact information with the receptionist to have him give me a call. This process repeated weekly for TWO MONTHS! Each time I came in or called, his staff would tell me that they gave him the message and they were not sure why he had not called me back. I even left messages on his personal cell phone. In my opinion, he is not professional at all.



Eventually, after waiting 3 months for Kelly to either call me or replace the tree, I requested a refund of the $150 I paid for the tree and the installation. I was told that a refund would be processed that day (it was not). I called a week later to get a status on the refund. The employee I was dealing with told me that Kelly would not let him issue the refund and would not give him a reason why.



I am not sure how he has stayed in business this long by treating his customers this way. Something tells me he will see sales fall significantly as other disgruntled customers are starting to leave negative reviews on the web about his work. I will not do business with him again.



The only way I did get the tree replaced was by going to another competing nursery (Wentworth’s) and paying $200 to have them install the tree. They installed when they said they would and gave me a written 1-year warranty.



MY RECOMMENDATION IS TO LOOK TO BUY YOUR PRODUCTS FROM SOMEPLACE ELSE AND STAY CLEAR OF KELLY’S TREE & LANDSCAPING SERVICE!!
