This historical house is a wonderful example of the works of local architect, Steven Steiner who lived in Frederick at the time Francis Scott Key had his law office and Admiral Schley lived in the city. It has been preserved and cherished by the ladies of The Frederick Woman's Civic Club since 1962 when they purchased it from the Frederick Historical Society. The ladies influenced their husbands who were leaders of the community to loan them some of the money along with the local banks for the and paid the mortgage off in just 7 years with funds from their annual Mardi Gras Ball. The Ball has been an annual seasonal affair in Frederick since that first event. Today the club uses the funds to give scholarships to high school seniors, contribute to local charities such as Hospice of Frederick, Heartly House for abused women, the Child Advocacy Center of Frederick County, etc., they fund their operations for the club projects, and they maintain Historic Steiner House.
