Plate from very thin to as thick as ten inches is placed on a flat bed. A computer controlled cutting head is dynamically positioned/moved along the X and Y axes and adjusted up and down in Z axis via digitally controlled drive motors from a computer. The control and movement is very much like your desktop printer except the material does not move. The flat material can be cut most any shape a person can draw in CAD (Computer Added Drafting) software or even simply hand sketched and then scanned into the digitizing software. The CNC WaterJet operated by TopHand is the next generation Mitsubishi MC Machinery model MWX3-612 equipped with a 72” x 144” table and 5-axis taper control system. The heart of this CNC WaterJet is the KMT PRO2 intensifier pump operating at 90,000 psi. This system uses a diamond orifice to focus a narrow beam of water and combines it with abrasive exiting a carbide nozzle at the speed of over mach 3! Why CNC WaterJet? The materials that can be cut are almost limitless. Anything from fragile styrene foam to titanium is cut. Specialty industries also cut meat and other food products as well as disposable diapers. The vast majority of materials are carbon/stainless steels and aluminum alloys with plastics and woods being the next largest category. The advantage of the CNC Waterjet is that it is by far the most versatile of all CNC machines and it can cut virtually any material to thicknesses exceeding 6” with the exception of tempered glass which may shatter and diamonds which are harder than the garnet abrasive. 1. WaterJet is Versatile: a. It cuts virtually any material up to the hardness of a garnet. No other CNC tool can do this. 2. Materials Cut: Aluminum, Titanium, Inconel, Carbon and Alloy Steels, Stainless Steel, Plastics, Bronze, Copper, Brass, Glass, Armor Plating, Bullet Proof Glass, Hardi-Board, Rubber, Wood CFRP, Marble/Granite, Chromium, Laminates, Stone Advantages of WaterJet Dimensional accuracies to within 0.002” Compares to CNC Laser but again in virtually any material and not just metal.
