General Info
OPUS BOOKS was born from a dream - of the author responsible for his own words as publisher, in the tradition of Walt Whitman & Mark Twain - as producer/director in the tradition of Charles Chaplin - as capitalist, owner & entrepreneur in the tradition of Shakespeare, Beethoven & Balzac, to name a few who first appeared entirely financed by themselves, not first for profit but to keep the record straight, of the individual' s struggle to stay afloat against all odds, to be able to look himself in the eye while he looked at others without blinking. Our dream was to continue what Charles Dickens started in 1859 when he founded, edited and was responsible as publisher, owner & last word for All the Year Round. So exists OPUS BOOKS, the work signed by James Webster Sherwood, preserved in the spirit of free speech and independent authorship, an act of the raw journalist and poet combined, available in its copyright, approved text. OPUS BOOKS is the collaboration of many who, over fifty years, have given skills in research, reportage, support, writing and editorial precision to make a personal history of our undigested times. " Wouldn' t it be nice if we could publish and preserve the truth of people who passed in the form of a book to give our friends?" Thus was born OPUS BOOKS - on Sunday, October 5, 1997.
