Avoid at all costs - I regret ...

Avoid at all costs - I regret having ever done auto repair here!!!

My story: In August, 2011 my clutch on my car needed to be replaced after 10 years and 125,000 miles. The guy charged an absurd rate for labor, but I felt trapped since my clutch was gone and couldn't drive my car. When I got the car back, I noticed the rubber on the gear knob for the shifter was torn up and the rubber/plastic covering for the gear house from the shifter to the floor was broken and off. I showed the problems to one of the managers and he immediately became defensive insisting that the damage must have existed before and they'd have no reason to have touched that area. I explained to him that I had no reason to lie about this -- why would I spend over $800 for a clutch and then try to get him to fix $10-$20 of damage to a gear knob? It was clearly done by someone at their shop. After him being extremely rude and yelling at me, I finally was able to speak to the owner who reluctantly said they'd replace the gear knob for free. I resolved to never do business there again.

FAST FORWARD 8 months to April, 2012. My clutch, now 8 months and 8,000 miles later, failed on my car!! I called up the place and explained to him that the clutch had fallen to the floor and was unresponsive and afterwards was now frozen and wouldn't move. I felt I had no choice but to take it to him hoping he'd be reasonable since it was related to work he had done. I should have known. Upon looking at it, he immediately began to verbally assail me telling me I had lied to him and the clutch had NOT fallen to the floor (I pointed out it had, but was now frozen). He kept repeating this almost to make me feel terrible for the information I had told him. BUT THAT WAS BESIDES THE POINT. All I wanted to know was what was wrong. I told him the facts as they had happened and rather than move on to what might be wrong with my car, all he seemed to care about was the fact that the clutch was behaving in a way that was different than he had expected. At this point, in a 5 minute conversation he repeated 6 times that it was no longer under warranty and that I could read the bill that stated clearly warranty stopped at 90 days or 3,000 miles whichever was first. I kept trying to tell him that I was less concerned about the warranty and more concerned with him helping me understand how something related to the clutch could break again so soon. He didn't seem to care, but wanted to keep repeating it wasn't covered under warranty and that he'd need to open it up and once he did, he was going to have to charge me the full rate again. But, he'd cut me a deal... rather than charge me the new labor rates of $90/hr, he'd keep it at the old rates of $80/hr. Wow. Paying $80/hr I'd expect some better customer service. My wife is a nurse and makes $30/hr - and she saves lives without expecting any thanks in return. These guys charge $80-$90/hr and expect you to bow down at their feet for even bothering to look at your car.

When I spoke to another mechanic garage, they were much more professional and treated me like they wanted me as a customer. They even were surprised this other mechanic didn't investigate the potential for it being related to hydraulics for the clutch and not the clutch itself. Much better approach to me as the customer!

Bottom line: I immediately towed my car to this new place and am thrilled to never have to do business with this jerk again. You should avoid this place if you can. If you've already used them, everyone makes mistakes... just remember to post reviews so others don't get swindled.

This is the most trustworthy business and the most qualified to do transmission work in the area. I got an honest fair price for my transmission repair- these people are worth traveling to - the mechanics are excellent and know everything about all makes and models.

Long time customer & ALWAYS satisfied

I have been a long time customer to Johnson's Transmissions, and I have always had the best experiences!

The mechanics are friendly, knowledgeable and beyond professional. They have an immense knowledge of their craft and I have recommended their services to many friends over the years. They go out of their way to help you out. I remember one time I accidentally jammed my key into the lock and they took the time to remove it with a magnet FREE OF CHARGE! This type of service is tailored to the customer and so refreshing, not like the big chain mechanics that are a dime a dozen.

Thank you so much for your continued professionalism and always helping get my car safe and steady after all those crazy New England winters we have!

5 Star Service!!!!! Recommend it to all your friends!!!

I took my car to this place, and I regret the date I did so. This mechanic used bait and hock on me, I don’t think I am the only victim, he seems to done it to others as will, and might get away with it. Each time I took my car to get it fixed for the same issue he raised the fee, from $15 to $3000.00. And when I finally question his work, he locked my car inside his garage and started charging me for storage. A word of advice, stay away from Mechanics that don’t give written estimates, because they there is a reason behind it, they will try to screw you at the end, if don’t know your right. I took this mechanic to the court to get my car back.
