Description Of Work:

What we needed done: Gut and renovate kitchen and 2 full bathrooms. Remove walls that separated the kitchen and living area and replaced it with a large island. One was a supporting wall. Wanted bookcases built on both sides of the fireplace. Install recess lighting and new hardwood floors on the main level. Plus, paint the interior of the house.

When we first meet Joe, we liked him and went with him even though he was a little more expensive than the other companies we looked at. He was very nice and seemed trust-worthy. He even had us over to his house for dinner with his family to discuss what we wanted. Once the contract was signed, things slowly changed.

The workmanship of the entire job was terrible. Planning was non-existent. Joe purchased finishing/design items (vanity lights, pendant lights) without our input. He changed design not because it was better but because it was easier and cheaper. Items we picked, he substituted with cheaper items. The kicker was the kitchen cabinet knobs. One knob didn't match the rest. He was probably short a knob and instead of buying one, he tried to hide it and put a different one in on one of the top cabinets in hopes we wouldn't notice. Can we say SHADY.

The tile work was done carelessly -- sloppy and uneven. He blamed the tiles, saying some were thicker. We went to the tile store to check out the tiles and there were a few tiles that were a little thicker but nothing like what we saw in our kitchen. He argued with us and didn't want to correct it. In our bathrooms, he used broken tiles.

The paint job was awful. There was paint on everything -- the windows, the new recess lights, the new kitchen cabinets, etc. They also damaged our furniture while moving it and left scratches, compound and paint on our hardwood floors.

He showed absolutely no respect for our house. We understand that plans/designs change but almost everything in our master bath was changed because of poor planning. For items in the contract that he didn't end up performing, we didn't see a penny of the money back but any extras, he had no problem charging us more.

The only thing that turned out really nice was the new hardwood floors and that was done by a subcontractor.
