Types Of Hardwood Floors Available: Unfinished hardwood floors: These are solid hardwood flooring materials like oak, cherry, maple, pine, fir, etc. - made ready to install and need to sand and finish to your taste (staining, waterbase finishing, oilbase finishing). These floors can be sanded and refinished 7-10 times and often install on- or above-grade. Prefinished hardwood floors: These are solid hardwood flooring materials similar to unfinished hardwood floors. They are finished by the manufacturer and only require installation to be ready for use in the home. They can be installed on- or above-grade and can be sanded and refinished like unfinished hardwood floors. Engineered hardwood floors: These hardwood floors can be installed on any type of sub-floor (wood, concrete, linoleum, etc.) on-grade, above-grade, or lower grade. They can be installed like nail-down, glue-down, or floating floors. Laminate floors: These floors are made from artificial materials with a wood-like finish on the surface.
