I had a very sad experience on Saturday 1/07/12. I witness a decorated military young man who has been a formal State Sheriff, he is now severaly handicap. We both had waited for over 1 hour when finally called back and waited another 30 minutes. I heard that he needed to use their restroom and they bluntantly said "NO". I am changing vets (even though I have been going there for over 25 years) since they have absolutely no compassion whatsoever for a fine young man who has dedicated so many years to protect us...but yet they clean up the mess up puppy makes and coos and ahhs and says that is perfectly all right. Please stand up for this fine St. Albans hero...I am ashamed of Gateway Animal Hospital!!!!!!

Gateway Animal Hospital is not a good place to take your pet. There is one vet (a male) who is a wonderful vet there but he is never working. The female will kill your pet. I took my cat there because our dog was rough housing with her and managed to dislocate her hip. They had to cut her open, place her hip back into the correct location, and stitch the muscle to keep it tight and prevent it from happening again. We bring her home and she is in so much pain that she can't lift her head and she is shaking. They provided no pain medication. I called to get something to make her pain bearable. I give the cat the first dose and not two hours later she was dead. I called the vet to ask what it was they prescribed her and to tell them that they had killed her and they said if I wanted I could pay to have an atopsy done but that they knew it wasn't their fault. Don't take your pet there if you want to keep them alive. My mother also took her dog there with an ear infection. After lifting the ear and blowing my mother off she got a second opinion. Her dog had such a bad infection that it is now deaf.

I had a very poor experience with the Gateway Animal Hospital. I took my dog in to get spayed on a Friday morning at 8:30 a.m., as I was instructed by the hospital's staff earlier in the week. They promised to call me when she was done with her surgery to let me know her status. I waited all day with no call. I called once at 4:30 pm and was told that my dog was about to go into surgery and AGAIN promised that I would receive a call when she was finished. 7:30 pm came and went with no call.



When I called this time, the message I received was that the hospital closed at 7:30 pm and no operators could be reached at the time, so I drove to the hospital to find out my dog's status. When confronting the staff about the situation I was met with shoulder shrugs, excuses, and other very non-professional behavior as to WHY I was not notified at all during the day about my dog's status, OR that they were going to have to keep her overnight (merely because they were unable to finish paperwork now that they were "closed").



If I hadn't gone down it is likely I would not have known where or in what condition my dog was until the following day. Also, no veterinarian even came forward to address the issue even though I had asked to speak to one.



This negligence on the part of the Gateway Animal Hospital is unacceptable in my opinion and should not be excused. I would strongly advise you to look elsewhere.

Not very good parking area; however the doctors are caring and professional.
