True Martial Arts is a great place to learn Tae Kwon Do and self-defense. I learned a lot and made a bunch of new friends as well.

Very unfriendly Staff and Owner, awful customer service.
We had very bad experience with this school. They are soo rude with the kids and the parents.I completely agree with the below review by Kimberayala.I experienced the same thing what she explained in that.Even we complained about the owner lady couple of times being very rude to kids but no one seems to care about it.They were not nice to my son and me after I complained. He told me that the instructor was staring at him all the times and telling him that he doesn't know anything. They were demotivating him with bad words and being very harsh on him during the classes.

I joined him since it was close to home and my son wanted to learn teakwando so bought groupon to try out.But now I see after they demotivated him he doesn't want to go to this school anymore and want to stop teakwando completely.I see a big change in his behavior and his opinion about this school.I would not recommend anyone to go to True Martial arts. They are very commercial and just care about money not about your children. Please be present during the class hours and observe their behavior with your child if you want to know exactly what's happening with your own child.I am telling the truth please please do not join your kids to this school it is awful.I would not even give 1 star also for this school.

Awful Customer Service

I took my son to this studio because they were offering a special and it was close to home. I have sinced learn that you really do get what you pay for. I had been warned in advance that the owner was not friendly and not great with kids or their parents. My son had had her as a teacher during an after-school program and said the same thing. I figured that he would have a different teacher at the studio and things would improve. That was not the case. First, the studio itself smelled really bad. I was told by a couple of parents that it was from sweat but obviously they are not cleaning very well, as there is no reason for that stink. I had to leave, could not even sit through the class each time, the smell was sometimes that bad. My son just told me that he "had to get used to it."
The teacher was friendly and I did like her; however, when we had a talking problem with another child and my son ended up sobbing, no one bothered to say a word to him or to me. I had no clue why he was crying, just found him standing in the lobby, sobbing. I noticed teachers and owners behind the desk but no one said a word to him or to me. I finally found out what had happened from another parent. I suggested in an email that the teacher might want to let parents know if there was a problem and was told that if I did not like her methods, I could take my son and leave.
I truly believe that the culture of a business starts with the top person and ripples down. Looking back at the unfriendliness and scowls given by the owner, I should not be surprised. She was exceptionally rude to me for picking up a piece of merchandise and looking at it with the intent to buy it. She snapped at me to put it down and not touch it--this was an open shelf and there was no sign warning to not touch the items--and spoke to me like I was a toddler--actually, with less respect than I would speak to a toddler or anyone else, for that matter. It was interesting that they stressed always using respect but the respect shown for an adult was non existent. When I complained about her bad attitude--and I DID complain about that--I was told that I should have known what they were about and no one felt she had done anything out of place. Considering I had simply picked an item up and was not trying to eat it or tear it apart, I disagree.
FInally, I do not appreciate that the kids are punished if they are late for class. I am not talking about chronic lateness and am not even referring to my own child here. I saw a few kids come in late from time to time and they were forced to do pushups. A teacher should not punish a five year old for his mother's having an appt. and coming in three minutes late. This is a tae kwon do class for five to seven year olds, not a marines basic training course.
I have since switched to Karate West and cannot begin to describe the difference. Everyone I have met is friendly, the studio does not smell, there are two adult teachers in each class, as opposed to an adult and a young adolescent, and everyone is treated with respect. I also like that they have a life skills program, which teaches the kids how to be strong, how to stand up to bullies, and how to believe in themselves. Everyone and every method is positive and it is worth every penny. I highly recommend finding a TRUE martial arts studio and avoiding TRUE, which is about as false as they come.

This place has changed my life. I started out as a shy kid with no confidence. Now, several years later, I am prepared to "meet challenges head on", as one of our mental requirements says. What I love so much about this place is they really focus on mental and physical strength. Reaching black belt is extremely difficult, but that makes it mean so much more. TMA emphasizes that you only use the techniques you learn in class if you have no other options. The instructors are strict and expect you to be on time or you have to do a few pushups (they are reasonable and if you call and let them know you are going to be late they will understand) they also will only let you test for your next rank if you pass a pretest from a senior instructor. They do not want you to go to a test and fail. As you progress in your training, you realize that the instructors truly care about you. My head instructor cried when I got my most recent rank. You realize that you are part of a family and everyone is as emotionally invested in your progress as much as you are. The chief instructor is AMAZING. He is tough on you on the training floor, but outside of class he is approachable and almost always has a smile on his face. Teaching is also really fun. They makes sure that every instructor reads the manual and meets with the chief instructor to make sure we know how to handle various situations when instructing a class. They let teenagers teach, but only under constant adult supervision. Some of these "adolescents" have been training for over ten years and know their stuff. Overall, this school is awesome environment for families and anyone who wants quality martial arts training in a place where everyone is welcome.

Also, I know that now there is somebody who comes in every morning at cleans the studio and bathrooms. They also really started stressing the importance of proper hygiene and deodorant, and this has helped considerably!!!

I would urge anybody to give this place a fair chance before condemning it. It is very family oriented - my entire family trains there, including my parents! We love it there, and although they are strict and have high expectations, I still look forward to going to my classes every week.
