General Info
Noureddin Nourbakhsh, DO, is a board-certified nephrologist with a special interest in caring for pediatric patients with a range of kidney conditions, including chronic kidney disease, hypertension, renal transplant, genetic renal disorders, glomerulonephritis, and renal cystic disease. He helps lead a clinic twice a month that coordinates the transition of pediatric patients to adult nephrology care as they come of age.Dr. Nourbakhshs research focuses on sepsis-induced acute kidney injury (AKI), one of the most common causes of AKI. Other research interests include metabolic alkalosis, protein-energy wasting in children with chronic kidney disease, and the role of renal oxygenation and mitochondrial function in the pathophysiology of AKI. His work has been published various peer-reviewed medical journals, including Nephron Clinical Practice, Pediatric Nephrology, and The American Journal of Medicine. He been invited to present at national conferences and has won numerous honors and awards over the years, including the Whitehill Prize Award for Excellence in Teaching. Dr. Nourbakhsh completed combined fellowship training (adult and pediatric) in nephrology-hypertension at UC San Diego and Rady Childrens Hospital-San Diego. He completed residency training at Stony Brook University Hospital in Stony Brook, New York, where he served as the internal medicine-pediatrics program chief resident. He received his medical degree from College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific in Pomona, California. He is board-certified in nephrology, internal medicine, pediatric nephrology and general pediatrics. Dr. Nourbakhsh is a Fellow of of the American Academy of Pediatrics (FAAP) and the American Society of Nephrology (FASN).
