- Established in 1866, the San Francisco Fire Department is governed by City and County of San Francisco in California. It specializes in the protection of lives and properties of people from fire, natural disaster and hazardous materials incidents. The department provides tactical rescue, emergency medical care, fire prevention and arson investigation services. It administers various prevention and educational programs that assists in the suppression of fire. The San Francisco Fire Department operates through EMS, homeland security, airport, support services, and fire prevention and investigation divisions. It also administers the FLAME Youth Fishing Program, which allows disadvantaged youths to go on fishing expeditions on the San Francisco Bay Area. The department s training division conducts regular exercises, live fire drills and specialized training programs. It offers ambulance billing, blood pressure screening and child safety seat inspection services. In addition, the San Francisco Fire Department administers the Juvenile Fire Setter Intervention program, which identifies the scope and impact of child fire setting and activates preventative and intervention measures through the education of children and parents.
