Nature is the strength behind naturopathic medicine. As naturopathic doctors we understand that we all have a powerful healing ability within us. Naturopathic therapies are aimed at stimulating this force to reestablish balance and bring about healing. All our therapies are derived from nature. We use herbs, nutritional supplements, dietary change, physical modalities, spinal manipulation, lifestyle changes, and homeopathic remedies. We use standard laboratory tests and specialized functional laboratory tests as a means for making diagnoses and establishing treatments, and we refer to specialists when we feel it is necessary. Chinese medicine is an ancient and comprehensive system of healing that uses acupuncture, Chinese herbs, dietary advice, and specific exercise. Chinese medicine considers health a balanced state of being that relates to both our physical and emotional well-being. Chinese diagnosis evaluates particular disharmonies of energy systems in our bodies. There are specific pathways through which energy flows in our bodies, and these pathways relate to certain organ systems. Acupuncture is a means for stimulating and altering the flow of energy through these pathways. Needles, physical pressure or heat may be used to stimulate the acupuncture points.
