Founded in 1953, Thurston Middle School enrolls more than 500 students in grades six through eight. It is a part of Springfield Public Schools, which operates several elementary, middle and high schools. The school s general academic curriculum includes subjects, such as reading, math, science, social studies and language arts. Thurston Middle School also conducts classes in Spanish, art, band, orchestra, family science and industrial education. It offers transportation, medical care and guidance counseling services. Thurston Middle School provides special education for students with special needs. It features a library that maintains a collection of reference materials and fiction and nonfiction books.
