- Washburn University provides liberal arts and professional education through more than 200 certificate, associate, baccalaureate, master s and juris doctor programs through the College of Arts and Sciences and the Schools of Law, Business, Nursing and Applied Studies. The university was established in 1865 as Lincoln College by a charter issued by the state of Kansas and the General Association of Congregational Ministers and Churches of Kansas on land donated by abolitionist John Ritchie. Its men's athletic teams use the Ichabods nickname and the women's teams are known as the Lady Blues. The university s campus features public television station called KTWU-TV, the Mulvane Art Museum and the Crane Observatory. It provides financial assistance to eligible students in form of grants, scholarships and loans. The university is a member of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association and the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II. Washburn University has an enrollment of more than 7,000 students and is located in Topeka, Kan.
