- Washington School for the Deaf addresses the needs of deaf and hard of hearing students throughout the state of Washington by providing instructional services. It operates high, middle and elementary schools, and was founded in 1866. Its sports activities include football, volleyball, cheerleading, basketball, track, basketball, volleyball and soccer. Its independent living programs provide opportunities to gain practice in daily living skills and to interact with deaf and hard-of-hearing. The school additionally provides self-care and daily living, food preparation, food shopping and nutrition, personal management, accessing community resources, housing, transportation, financial management and budgeting, recreation and leisure activities. Its after school programs are designed for students to gain vocational skills and develop career path training, self-esteem, self-awareness, self-control and decision making abilities.
