General Info
Phipps Memorial is a family owned and operated business serving the Central Texas community. Originally, Walter Dietz ( Joe Phipps' grandfather ) went into the monument business in 1903. Jim Phipps, Joe's father, began working for his father-in-law at Weller and Dietz Memorial Company in 1933. Shortly afterwards, Weller was bought out to form Dietz Memorial Company. In 1939, Jim Phipps formed his own monument company, Jim Phipps Memorial Company. Joe assumed operation of Phipps Memorial following his father's death in 1991 and teams with his son, Joe Jr., and daughter, Donna, to form a fourth generation landmark in the monument trade. Since 1991, new life has been poured into the company with ever expanding facilities and state of the art technologies, while still maintaining the original integrity of the company. Joe Phipps is the only monument retailer to have earned all four awards given by the Elberton Granite Association for creative designs, sales skills, monument retailing, and retail shop procedures. He has also been recognized by the National Association of Monument Builders of North America for both the 1996 and 1997 Knowledge Quest Awards. Phipps Memorial is the only retail company in Texas which has been OCEA approved in safety. Since this time, Joe has conducted numerous lectures for the Monument Builders of the Southwest regarding OCEA standards. Phipps Memorial is proud to have received several awards for our memorials. We are the 1994 Monument Builders of the Southwest Design contest winner, which was the only one ever received by a memorial company in Waco, Texas. We are also proud of the ATF monument at Mt. Carmel, which won a best art award. Phipps Memorial has been recognized for outstanding service with our memorial to the children killed at the Head Start program in the Oklahoma City bombing. Phipps Memorial is located in Waco, Texas and serves the surrounding community within a seventy-five mile radius. However, in certain circumstances we do produce and ship out of our area. Based on our cost saving measures of being our own manufacturer and using computers in our design process, our prices are highly competitive in both local and distant regions. For these situations, please contact our office for prices and special arrangements.
