The Public Service Commission of the District of Columbia is an independent district government agency that was established by Congress in 1913 to regulate the electric, gas and telephone industries in the District of Columbia. It has a staff of over 65 individuals. The commission operates contracting and procurement department that purchases goods and services for it. The Public Service Commission of the District of Columbia offers several low-income discount, pay phone and outreach programs. The commission is governed by the District of Columbia, which also operates several government agencies, such as the District of Columbia Department of Human Resources, District of Columbia Department of the Environment and Council of the District of Columbia.
